THE ELECTRIC OVERLAND
MEET EVIE

Evie is a 1955 86” Series 1 Land Rover. She’s been in Ed’s family for over 35 years and he was restoring it with his father John (pictured above) who was an avid Land Rover enthusiast and lover of the First and Last Overland expeditions. John sadly passed away from non smokers lung cancer in late 2024. This journey is being untaken in memory of him and to show that even a 71 year old classic car can have a low carbon future and go the distance. To adapt Evie for her round world expedition she has been fitted with:
• 2 x Fellten 55kWh UBP-55E battery packs (providing up to 300 miles of range)
• A 282 horsepower Tesla Model 3 motor
• Charge Port and onboard charging system
• Radiator Pack
• Control and Diagnostics Equipment
• Electric Brake Vacuum System
• Electric Handbrake Calipers
• Upgraded diffs, axles and braking systems
+ Overlanding essentials such as a winch, solar panels and recovery boards
THE BATTERY PACK
Two Fellten 55kWh UBP-55E batteries have been used in Evie, providing 110kWh of capacity and up to 300 miles of vehicle range. Fellten are a highly reputable British manufacturer who specialise solely in high voltage battery packs for automotive, marine and storage applications. The UBP-55E was built with Land Rovers in mind, and utilises as much space under the bonnet as possible, seamlessly replacing the traditional engine.
Each battery pack has:
• OEM level components, build standards and testing.
• 55kWh capacity for around a 150 mile vehicle range.
• state of the art battery management, charge management and safety systems.
• aluminium thermal management plates.
• a 3mm steel structure, waterproof to IP67.
• compliance to R100.1 EU Regulations.
THE CHARGING SYSTEM
A 7kW AC + 70kW DC rapid charging system has been fitted to Evie. This charging setup provides a great deal of flexibility and will help enable super fast charging during the expendition. The expedition route has been designed with the charging infrastrucure in mind. This configuration ensures;
• The ability to charge via a standardised plug system which will be available worldwide,
• Vehicle to load capability, allowing for a 110V / 220V AC power output.
• A built in DCDC which charges and maintains original 12V vehicle systems.
The wide flexibilty in charging speeds / types as well as the potential for charging via solar (via an 800-1200W array) will help ensure Evie can be charged throughout the world. Whilst there will undoubtably be challenges, the route and legs of the journey have been planned with the vehicles 300 mile range in mind.
